5 Stars Common Sense Advice That REally Works If You Are Motivated Enough
I bought this book about a year ago, but only got serious about following the plan about 3 months ago (in preparation for my upcoming wedding!). I am thin and did not need to lose weight, but I had very noticeable cellulite on my thighs and even my calves.
I didn’t have the money for the complete list of recommended supplements, so I was only taking a multi-vitamin from GNC, liquid flax seed oil from Henry’s Market, fiber, protein powder, and a powdered whole food supplement. But I did follow the food advice very closely. I drank lots of water and fresh juices, and I COMPLETELY cut out fast food and junk food, processed sugar and caffeine. I did not eat a single fatty or greasy thing for the whole 8 weeks. And this was over the holidays, LOL! But it was an experiment and I was sticking to it!!
I officially assessed myself at about 6 weeks—I had lost a few pounds, which I wasn’t aiming for, but the cellulite that had plagued me for years was GONE. Even when I squeeze my skin, it isn’t there. Now I am working hard to stick with the healthy foods, and I’ve made a resolution to start exercising as well, which I haven’t made good on yet, LOL. This book offered me practical step-by-step advice and motivated me to accomplish something I didn’t think possible.
4 Stars The program works!
I am not one to write online reviews very often, but I felt that this one is necessary….I have been taking the supplements for 3 months now and have lost 1 inch off of both thighs. Something that has been a struggle for me at the gym. I bought the supplements on my own which were inexpensive and easy to find at my local Target. The only thing with buying them on your own is that there are a lot to take at once. Whereas if you buy the expensive Murad vitamin packs, there are only 4 vitamins to take twice a day. I take 10 supplements once a day. This is the reason for 4 out 5 stars, however, it’s not that bad. My supplements include vitamins C, E, and a combo pill of all the B’s, Grape Seed Extract, Glucosamine, Flax Seed Oil, Fish Oil, Soy Lecithin, combo pill of Calcium Magnesium and Zinc, and finally L-Lysine. I also purchased the Murad cellulite kit which included Firm and Tone serum, body scrub and Firming Lotion for $80. I continue to do cardio a few times a week and have recently added Pilates to my routine. This program should be used in addition to a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise and not in replacement of. I was skeptical at first but by week 2 I could see a difference and by week 4, my jeans fit differently. This program may not work for everyone, and some may want to consult their doctor before beginning. However, some of these vitamins should be taken daily anyway.
1 Star Buyer Beware!
I bought Dr. Murad’s vitamin pack, and followed his regime. After about 21 days, I started to become violently ill about 3 hours after taking the vitamins. Thinking I had the stomach flu, this went on for several days until I realized that the vitamins were actually toxic to my system. Not only was there extreme vomiting, diarrhea, but I became very itchy. Wherever I scratched, I would develop severe bruising! I think Dr. Murad should be very careful prescribing the same amount of vitamins for ALL women. Many factors should be taken into consideration, like weight, health history, etc. By the way, I was in excellent health prior to this regime, just had some cellulite that I wanted to get rid of. The good news is, that I should recover 100%, but there are some long term, permanent effects to vitamin toxicity that all buyers should be aware of.
1 Star Very disappointed !!!
I wasted a lot of time and money on this useless program. If you’ll notice, most of the positive reviews were BEFORE they actually tried the program. So, those were ratings of how excited they were about the program as opposed to how well the program actually works. Save your money - this is no miracle cure.
1 Star Does NOT work !!! May be harmful…
The suggestions/solutions in this book do NOT work. I wasted over $250.00 on vitamins and followed the recommended regime for over 3 months (As opposed to the suggested 2 months… to give the program the benefit of the doubt after failing to observe any form of promised results). I am a 5′4, size zero female and I have cellulite in my thighs. After following the program outlined in this book I now have varicose/spider veins which I did NOT have before following the suggestions of this book! As part of the vitamin/supplement regime, this book instructs its user to take antioxidant, biotin and niacin pills. I read an article in Reader’s Digest that said these supplements could actually be harmful! It appears the antioxidants may have contributed to giving me varicose veins. Do not make the same mistake I made… go to the gym and build up the muscle in your legs. That may help, but the program in this book certainly will not.

5 Stars OMMMMMMM
what a serene, peaceful read this book is. so very complementary to yoga/meditation practice. one of my yoga instructors refers to specific areas in it before practicing and it enhances every movement.
5 Stars Pleasantly surprised
I very much appreciate the female insight that this book is based on. What a great compliment to the library of male-written sutra books. We are currently doing a comparative study of the sutras, and The Secret Power of Yoga brings in an amazing element of femininity and light that could otherwise be overlooked. Don’t let it be your only book of the sutras, but don’t let it be missing from your collection either.
5 Stars Sutras made easy!
This book made the yoga sutras easy to understand and helped relate them to women. The book is an easy but important read for all yoginis out there who want to deepen their understanding of the yoga sutras of Patanjali.
5 Stars A daily guide for spiritual practice
This set of CD’s lives in my car and accompanies me down the road — both the physical road and the road of my life. As an avid student of Yoga, I am enamored not only with asana (poses) practice, but with the metaphysics and philosophical underpinning of this ancient and sometimes complex system of whole health. Nischala Devi guides me from a woman’s perspective, simply and clearly through the maze of the Yoga Sutras with her own unique flavor and world view. And while this is not an accurate “translation” of these ancient texts, her interpretation and commentary is for today, for women, and uncomplicates and simplifies the teachings so I can cease struggling and just rest in the depth of how to live my life in the 21st century where I am and as I am.
5 Stars Best interpretation!
This is the best interpretation of Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutras I’ve ever read. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. I just finished it and will be reading it many, many more times. Instead of making a list of do’s and don’ts that sound unattainable this book rephrases the sutras so that they’re truly livable. It doesn’t matter that it isn’t a word for word translation and it doesn’t matter that not all of the sutras are included. The author states her reasons for not including all of them and explains that she’s not translating as a scholar. This is the first time I’ve read the Yoga Sutras and have been warmed by them.

5 Stars Content is real worth!
Quality of the content: Enjoyed and learnt a lot about Strength Training.
State of the DVD: As it strucks at some places I couldn’t watch continously. I’m using the workout menu to complete the DVD.
2 Stars Get his books instead
While Douglas Brooks puts out some of the best books on resistance training (which I would highly recommend), this DVD is not a good example of his advice. In fact, there are several moves that are he says are “contraindicated” in his book that he includes on the DVD, which is rather dated (notice Brooks’ mullet ‘do!)
1 Star Bad
Bad, Bad, Bad.
After watching this dvd, I realized that I had missed about half of it because I had fallen asleep.
